Palisades Drive,
Signal Mountain, TN
PROJECT
FACTS:
Wall
Area
= 1,000 SF;
Max Ht
= 15 FT
CHALLENGE:
A century old, stacked stone retaining wall supporting
Palisades Drive where it passes over a protected,
environmentally sensitive creek was progressively failing.
The failing wall put the busy roadway above and its
passengers at risk. The wall had to be repaired without
compromising the creek and with minimum impact to traffic.
SOLUTION:
Pinnacle Design/Build designed a gravity buttress wall using
Redi-Rock™ large block units to stabilize the failing wall.
Our crews carefully constructed the challenging repair
without incident.
VALUE:
The Pinnacle Design/Build solution saved the town over
$300,000 when compared to other solutions considered. In
addition, the entire project (design to closeout) was
completed in less than one month while keeping the Palisades
Drive open to traffic.

University of Virginia - North Grounds Connector,
Charlottesville, VA
PROJECT
FACTS:
Wall Area
= 24,200 SF;
Max Ht
= 42 FT
CHALLENGE: The
University of Virginia needed a new roadway over a
stream valley.
SOLUTION: Pinnacle Design/Build constructed two back to back 42 ft
tall MSE- panel retaining walls to support the
elevated roadway.
VALUE:
The MSE retaining walls were constructed quickly and at a
lower cost than conventional retaining wall options.
The vertical
retaining walls minimized the roadway’s footprint
onto the stream valley.

The City of Atlanta required a new bridge and embankment
at a key intersection inside the new CONRAC facility
under construction at the Hartsfield-Jackson
International Airport.
SOLUTION: Pinnacle
Design/Build constructed an MSE Panel retaining walls to
form the abutments on both sides of the bridge. We also
constructed precast and cast-in-place concrete coping to
finish the top of the walls.

FACTS:
Wall Area
= 5,000 SF;
Max Ht
= 22.5 FT
CHALLENGE:
Repair to the parkway at the several landslide locations.
SOLUTION:
Pinnacle
Design/Build was part of a design team that utilized soil
nailing, tiebacks and MSE retaining walls to stabilize the
slide and support the reestablished roadway.
VALUE:
